About

Nooken District is located in the northwestern part of the Jalal-Abad Region. It is an economically developed and strategically vital region of Kyrgyzstan. The climate is highly favorable for agriculture, particularly for growing cotton, grains, and vegetables. The district is home to the "Kyrgyzneftegaz" enterprise, known as the country's main oil and gas extraction hub.

History

Nooken District was originally established in 1935. During the Soviet era, it was known as Lenin District for a long period and occasionally incorporated parts of the neighboring Bazar-Korgon District. Its historical name, Nooken District, was officially restored in 1992 following Kyrgyzstan's independence. The administrative center of the district is the village of Masy.
