About

Mailuu-Suu is a city of regional significance within the Jalal-Abad Region, situated in the scenic valley of the Mailuu-Suu River. The industrial sector holds a dominant place in the socio-economic development of the region. The city's industrial heritage is deeply connected with the "Mailuu-Suu Electric Lamp Plant", commissioned in 1964. Currently, state-level initiatives are being carried out to revitalize and modernize the enterprise's potential, establishing a high-tech industrial park on its foundation.

History

The area's name originates from the first oil fields discovered in 1901 ("Mailuu-Suu" translates to oily water). In 1929, radiobarite deposits were discovered, and from 1946 to 1968, active uranium mining was conducted here, granting the town a secret "closed city" status within the USSR. In 1956, the settlement officially achieved regional city status. To provide employment for citizens after the uranium mines were sealed, the Soviet government decided to build the famous electric lamp factory here in 1964.
